Like our other bases, this one is made from high-quality 1/2” birch plywood. The mandala design is lightly etched onto the surface of the wood. You can follow the design or simply use it as the foundation for own—tesserae are easily adhered right over the top of the etching. It comes with a fitted, pre-cut mirror and everything you need to install it, as well as hanging hardware. Overall size is 23”x23”, which provides 2.5 square feet of mosaic surface!

When my wickedly creative friend and assistant Debby Allen described her idea for a very special and personal mandala mirror, we were thrilled to help her realize her vision with a custom substrate. Debby describes her inspiration:

I saw the Solar System pendant and my first thought was, ‘that should be a mirror!’ The round design represents inclusion and completeness. Each planet is in its own orbit, and interacts with neighbors to create the whole.

The sun and planets are represented with the colors and gemstones associated with them. The interplanetary spaces are primarily dark, with bits of color for asteroids and radio waves.

I honestly had no idea how this would look, and am happily surprised by how it turned out.

Note that mosaic pieces are not included in this kit. It comes with the wood substrate, mirror glass, hanging hardware, and everything you need to install the mirror glass. The photo of Debby’s completed mirror shows one possible final result using materials she obtained elsewhere.
